Black American Poetry is the Heart and soul of Black expression
Black American poetry is used to express many of the issues in the community. Black American poetry is often displayed in places that feature open microphones where poetry artists display their talents. Black American poetry is my favorite type of poetry because it relates to the current issues that I face everyday. Black American poetry is even found in rap music and can be used to write rhythm and blues. This poetry expresses the pain that is found in most of the Black communities.
In my book The Marks Left Behind, the expression of Black American poetry is used to communicate the problems that we face in the past and present. I used real life experiences to create short stories in my book. If you have never read Black American poetry, The Marks Left Behind is a great start. It is a very powerful and emotional book that will take you on a ride into the very heart of the African American Community and put you face to face with the realities of current Black struggles. I started writing Black American poetry after a friend of mine was killed nearly twenty years ago coming out of a night club where he had been in an argument. He decided that the best thing to do was to walk away. I was devastated by his death and started writing Black American poetry to express the things in life that really touched my heart.
